Starting in mid-April 2025, the Menesetung Bridge will be closed to all users for essential structural repairs. This necessary work will help preserve the bridge’s long-term safety and accessibility. The closure is expected to last approximately 16 to 20 weeks.
In the meantime, a scenic detour route is available and can be found on the G2G Rail Trail website map. This alternative path takes you past the historic Tiger Dunlop Tomb before leading down a switchback section maintained by the Maitland Trail Association. Cyclists are advised to dismount when navigating the switchback for safety.

This restoration project is a collaborative effort between the Menesetung Bridge Association (MBA), G2G Rail Trail (G2G), Maitland Trail Association (MTA), local municipalities, and the Province of Ontario.

If you’d like to support the preservation of this beloved landmark, consider making a donation through the Menesetung Bridge Association.
Thank you for your patience and support during the work to restore this important piece of our trail network!
About the Bridge Repair Project:
Maintaining the Menesetung Bridge and the surrounding trails is a core focus of the Menesetung Bridge Association (MBA). The bridge’s latest routine inspection showed that it is time to undertake the MBA's most ambitious project yet: repairing the tops of the concrete piers that support the bridge’s steel girders. To minimize the difficulty of the procedure, they are working to raise funds to make repairs while the bridge is still stable. Their goal is to raise enough money to refurbish the bridge all at once so that the bridge’s closure, and any inconvenience it causes, only lasts for one summer rather than two. About the Menesetung Bridge Association:
Today, the Menesetung Bridge is one of Goderich’s most treasured landmarks; a pedestrian walkway offering breathtaking views of the Maitland River and a vital connection to local trails. But this nearly 120-year-old bridge wouldn’t be here today without the dedication of the Menesetung Bridge Association (MBA).
The MBA is a local charity organization focused on preservation and conservation in Huron County. Their major project is the maintenance of the Menesetung Bridge and Tiger Dunlop Trail in Goderich.
In 1989, the Menesetung Rail Bridge in Goderich was decommissioned and slated for demolition. A group of concerned citizens formed the Menesetung Bridge Association to purchase it and convert it into a walking bridge and trail. Though the bridge was within weeks of demolition, the Association succeeded in saving the structure. Since that time, they have worked to preserve the bridge and keep it in good repair.
